Operating system is one of the most important
system software. There are lots of people who use different kinds of operating
system on the daily bases but they actually not know about operating system.
Mostly those people who are not belong with computer field. So this is the good
opportunity for that person desperately wants to know about what is operating system.
Operating system is most important system software. Operating system is
collection of system software which is stored on storage devices such as ROM,
hard disk, CD ROM floppy disk. Operating system is also stored in our hand held
devices such as mobile phone tablet etc. When computer are mobiles phone are
switch on the operating system transfer from storage devices to main memory of
the devices which you are currently use or which are switch on. Some hand held
devices have whole operating system in ROM chips. And these types of operating
system are most difficult to update. An operating system co-ordinate over all
operations in computer system or mobile devices. It provides the computer
hardware control and set of services to the users. Thus the operating system
acts as interface between the computer system or even mobile devices and
users. User interacts indirectly with application program. It is very important
for computer to load operating system in main memory for performing some task
on it. Some important task perform by operating are listed below.

Manage the file on storage devices.
Control I/O devices.
Manage application program in memory.
Multi user
multiprocessing, Share system:
The multi user operating system allows multi
users to use the same computer at the same time, some example of multiple
operating system are Linux, UNIX and window 2000.
An operating system that supports two are more
processors that are running the program at the same time is called
multiprocessor operating system. Example of multi processor operating systems
are UNIX and window 2000.
The operating system is responsible for heard
were resources. An application program does not directly access input/output
device or execute program instructions itself. The operating system
performs those works through CPU. The operating systems act as platform on
which various application programs are executed. The user request the
application program to perform particular task and application refer the
request to operating system.
The share system allows many users to share the computer on
the same time. It is used when several user are linked through communication
networks to a single computer. The computer first works on one user task for a
fraction of time and then goes to the next user’s task. The computer operates
very quickly and can distribute time to various tasks. The computer reputedly
switches back and fourth among different tasks.
